AWKA — The Anambra State Government has called on the electorate to resist supporting the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general election.
The call was made on Monday via the state government’s official X handle, managed by the Office of New Media under Governor Charles Soludo. The administration alleged that Obi was actively working against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the political party that originally brought him to prominence.
Accusing the former governor of betrayal, the official communication urged party faithful and voters across the state to protect APGA’s legacy in Anambra.
The political friction follows Governor Soludo’s public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential race. Soludo previously cited a personal friendship spanning over two decades with the President and expressed support for his economic reforms as key reasons for his backing. Furthermore, APGA’s national leadership formally endorsed President Tinubu earlier this year, declaring him as their preferred candidate for the upcoming election cycle.
The tension between both leaders has also played out recently over governance records, specifically regarding state financial obligations and World Bank project funding dating back to Obi’s tenure as governor. Obi has denied any financial impropriety, clarifying that the cited liabilities were Federal Government-negotiated development facilities rather than personal state debts.
Neither Peter Obi nor his media team has issued an official response to the state government’s recent social media statements as of press time.
