Donald Trump Raises Alarm Over Religious Persecution in Nigeria, Condemns Killings of Christians
The United States has officially designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” following President Donald Trump’s remarks expressing deep worry over what he described as the growing persecution of Christians in the West African nation.
In a post shared on X, Trump warned that Christianity is facing an “existential threat” in Nigeria, citing the alarming number of Christians reportedly killed in recent years.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ — but that is the least of it,” Trump stated on Friday.
The former U.S. President noted that when Christians—or any group—face such widespread killings, decisive action must follow. “When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide), something must be done,” he wrote.
Trump further disclosed that he had directed Congressman Riley Moore, alongside Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately investigate the situation.
He emphasized that the United States would not remain silent in the face of such violence.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to protect our great Christian population around the world,” Trump concluded.
