Oyo State Records 2,215 Land Grabbing Complaints in Two Years
The Oyo State Government has revealed that it has received a total of 2,215 petitions related to land grabbing and the forceful takeover of properties through the Oyo State Real Properties Protection Law Agency.
Speaking at her office in Ibadan, the Chairman of the Agency, Hon. Justice Olajumoke Aiki (rtd), disclosed that the state government has intensified efforts to strengthen the agency’s capacity to arrest and prosecute offenders involved in land-related crimes.
According to Justice Aiki, 860 petitions have been successfully resolved so far, while 143 petition files have been taken to court and 480 offenders prosecuted. She added that 125 petition files remain under review.
She noted that the agency’s statistical records show 3,363 forms obtained since inception, with most cases recorded between 2023 and 2025, following the agency’s official inauguration in 2022.
Justice Aiki commended Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support, describing him as the driving force behind the agency’s success.
“His Excellency, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, deserves all the accolades for empowering us to serve the good people of Oyo State. Without his financial and operational support, the agency would not have achieved this level of success,” she said.
The agency has also received commendations from notable individuals and organizations. One such commendation came from the Balogun Iyalode of Ibadanland, Chief (Mrs.) Taye Soyege, whose petition on a land dispute in Ido Local Government was diligently investigated and resolved by the agency.
Chief Soyege praised the agency’s professionalism and transparency, saying:
“Their discipline, courage, and commitment to duty deserve the highest commendation. They have brought great honour to the institution they represent.”
Similarly, the Religious Sisters of Charity, under the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, lauded the agency for its fair handling of a land dispute filed against them by Mr. Kazeem Lasisi. Investigations revealed there was insufficient evidence to support the petitioner’s claims of land grabbing or breach of peace.
Justice Aiki reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to justice, stating that all cases would continue to be handled with fairness, integrity, and professionalism, in full compliance with the Oyo State Real Properties Protection Law of 2016.
